I complain about living in AZ, quite a bit, but one positive to this state is the varying weather just hours away. When I heard the weather man announce it was going to be 108 degrees Sunday, I yelled a few profanities, then asked the hubby if we could day trip north. So, adios heat! Mountains here we come! Only 2 1/2 hours and it was 30 degrees cooler, surrounded by mountains and pine trees.
I prayed my feet would be okay. Thankfully they felt pretty good all day 🙂 Our agenda for hitting Flagstaff consisted of shopping at the Community Market to try and find the jewelry gal who makes the most delicate and exquisite accessories by hand (to replace a necklace I accidentally vacuumed up), refill my goat milk lotions from the Crazy Goat milk Lady, load up on fresh fruits, veggies, and eggs, then head to our fave shop: THE FLAGSTAFF SOAP CO. for soap, laundry detergent, pumice stones for Macio (my chinchilla), lip balm, whipped body butter…etc.
The first booth I found was Margot Simone and her fine jewelry. I honed in on ‘the necklace’ and snatched it up. I shared my embarrassing story with Margot of vacuuming up the first one I bought. Margot was very kind and happy to help me replace my treasured necklace.
I am eager to get a second necklace to layer the look and a pair of earrings. Margot really makes modest, yet stunning, jewelery.
Next, I filled my bags with veggies, eggs, nut butters, goat milk lotion, and home made jellies. Our next stop, and my husband’s favorite stop, was the Flagstaff Soap Co. He needed soap and laundry detergent…I created a bit of a ‘soap hippy snob’…adorable! He takes the soap and detergent when traveling, that is how much he loves their products. I got bath salts, roller ball essential oils, lip balm, pumice, and my love: whipped Shea body butter. Since it gets so hot in the valley, they can no longer ship the butter. The whipped Shea butter in lavender is a treat to use every night. It literally melts with the warmth of your skin. The desert and heat take a toll on my skin and it drinks up the butter.
We found a new lunch spot, Charly’s Bar and Grill, located in a historic hotel, The Weatherford. After eating, I asked the manager to see a room. So cute! Big claw foot tub, simple TV, phone, bed. LOVE! We will be sure to stay there next visit.
It was time to head back to the heat and the valley. On our way out of town, I mentioned there was a natural grocery store I had always wanted to check out. Minutes later we were in the parking lot of Natural Grocers. I Love how my husband is patient with my new found passion for real, organic, nutrient dense, home-grown food 🙂 I picked up a few things and then we were back on the road.
It was suck a wonderful day alone with my best friend. We held hands, walked, talked, ate, shopped, laughed, and just enjoyed being together. It was a perfect day before he has to head out of town for work.
Well, tomorrow starts another week. It is almost bedtime for this gal! Have a wonderful night!! Thank you again for all who follow and read my blog 🙂
